Presentation of the organisation:

Issue du partage de la grande commune de Compesières, la commune de Plan-les-Ouates fut fondée en 1851. Aujourd’hui Plan-les-Ouates a perdu son caractère spécifiquement rural pour devenir l’une des communes suburbaines les plus attractives du canton de Genève. Grâce à un développement équilibré, Plan-les-Ouates a pu conserver à ses villages leur caractère traditionnel tout en développant des zones de villas très appréciées, ainsi que des lotissements d’immeubles villageois privilégiant une mixité bienvenue des logements.
D’une superficie de 588 hectares, la commune de Plan-les-Ouates est constituée des villages de Saconnex d’Arve, d’Arare et de Plan-les-Ouates. Située entre Arve et Rhône, la commune révèle une histoire liée au développement des axes de communication européens. Témoin de l’une des voies romaines, l’actuelle route de Saint-Julien porte en elle l’histoire des convois reliant Carouge à Lyon et au-delà, au Midi de la France. La commune compte sur son territoire l’une des zones industrielles et commerciales les plus importantes du canton. La commune accueille plus de 600 entreprises offrant quelque 7'322 emplois. De la commune rurale, à vocation maraîchère, Plan-les-Ouates est prête à devenir une ville.
