URBACT is a European exchange and learning programme promoting sustainable urban development. It enables CITIES to work together to develop solutions to major urban challenges, reaffirming the key role they play in facing increasingly complex societal changes. A series of URBACT thematic reports "Cities of Tomorrow : Action Today" consisting of 7 publications is the most substantial output of the URBACT II Capitalisation process. The recently published “Building Energy Efficiency in European Cities" publication focuses on encouraging and facilitating urban energy efficiency and stresses the importance of raising awareness through information campaigns. The report highlights that “effective communication on energy efficiency is an important mechanism to create demand and stimulate engagement” and sites the Display® Campaign as an information tool to enable municipalities to publicly display the environmental performance of their buildings, and raise public awareness on energy and environment related questions (page 23).
