In September 2011 Bistriţa launched their local Display® Campaign and created green energy teams in all schools, which have been guided throughout the whole school year by a municipal energy specialist in order to analyse the schools’ energy consumption and to set up and implement an energy saving programme with specific objectives for each school.
In this continuity, the European Display® Campaign, during January 2011 and December 2012, involved all 17 schools in Bistriţa through specific actions undertaken by the "Eco-Energy" school teams. As a result of energy efficiency measures proposed by the "Eco-Energy" teams, two schools were noted by considerable reductions of water consumption, natural gas and electricity in 2012 compared with the year 2011. The winners of the local Display® Campaign are the Secondary School no. 1 and the Technical College "Grigore Moisil". Each student from the "Eco-Energy" winning teams received a water saving device, which is fitted directly on the water tap and through which one can get a saving from 12 liters/minute for a normal tap to 4 liters/minute.
The two "Eco-Energy" winning teams were invited to participate in the Local Energy Forum meeting established under the European project IMAGINE, a platform for foresight, collaboration and exchanges, leading to action and change in order to achieve the European energy and climate objectives. This Forum took place on the 6th of June, at Bistriţa City Hall, where the teams presented the energy efficiency measures that led to the appointment of the two schools in the top of the Display® Campaign ranking in Bistriţa.
