The regional daily newspaper “Der Landbote” reports that pupils, professors and caretakers of the schools Neuwiesen and Hegifeld have been awarded by the energy department of the City of Winterthur for their behaviour. Both schools show low energy consumption for the last heating period. The schools’ management reduced temperature to 16 degree outside of teaching hours. “Each school saved 13 0000 kWh”, says Heinz Wiher, head of the energy department of Winterthur. This is equivalent to a volume of 1300 litters of heating fuel.
The reward of both schools is the culmination of Winterthur’s Display® campaign, launched last year by the energy department to reduce energy consumption in public buildings. It allows the city to achieve its objective to reduce CO2 emissions. Past autumn, eleven schools were equipped with energy labels displaying their energy consumption.
