Directing all energies into giving the citizens a sense of responsibility
The Swiss Display campaign was launched on 27th October 2005 during the "Energy Day" in French-speaking Switzerland. And when Lausanne commits itself, Lausanne takes action. No energy is being spared to encourage awareness in the population. The town utilities (Services Industriels or SI) have been contacting the heads of schools in Lausanne since 31st October in order to give the adults of tomorrow a sense of responsibility as regards their present and future energy consumption.

The SI are convinced of the benefits of setting an example. Of the 300 or so public buildings, 160, including 29 schools, will be displayed in the first phase of communication. The objective of this awareness campaign in schools is to give the young generation sufficient necessary knowledge so that they understand energy and environment issues. Thus, they can choose to act in an eco-responsible way. With the Display poster and its explicit message, Lausanne is providing clarity for the users of the buildings. The poster has all the more impact, because users understand and appropriate it. Pupils commit themselves by signing eco-responsible consumer charters which are displayed in their classrooms. Their commitment means that pupils are taking up the challenge to improve their building’s classification.
It will be possible to observe changes, improvements in the buildings over the course of time. Consequently, Lausanne has chosen a double display: before and after renovation. This will highlight not only the technical solutions but also simple energy efficient actions. This is notably the case for the rental housing building Entre-Bois.
