Illzach “display”s its buildings’ energy performances!
Illzach (Alsace) is a city that is aware of the challenges of sustainable development and energy efficiency. In December 2007 they carried out aerial thermal imaging for all their public and residential buildings.
Today, Illzach would like to go beyond just gathering baseline data. They want to propose specific actions to reduce their energy bills and their Carbon footprint.
It is for this reason that on the 16th of February 2009 Illzach, in partnership with Mulhouse local energy agency, placed Display® posters in each of their 27 public buildings. The poster by itself was not considered sufficient as a means to inform and involve the building users and managers. Thus the city decided to compliment this action by implementing a local communication campaign - initially focussing on their schools.

On the 30th of January 2009 a kickoff meeting was organised to introduce Display® to municipal staff, technicians, school principals and teachers. After this specific meetings were organised with school principals and the teaching staff of 8 primary schools. This then resulted (or not) in the staff inviting the energy agency to introduce the students to basic energy efficiency and water principals and the link to the Display® poster.
For the Nursery schools just one meeting is planned to introduce the teachers to Display as it is felt that the children are a bit young to understand some of the technical aspects.
In the future the National energy certificate (DPE) will be produced for all their buildings (greater than 1000 m2 and valid for 10 years) and the first page in A3 displayed next to the Display® poster. For the following years the Display poster will be renewed every year and specific education programmes will take place in the schools.
