Temperature correction, Display moves!

Dear Displayers,

With the goal of harmonising the Display software and increasing the accuracy of your calculations, the display team has decided to make some important changes to the software.

As you all know, before the final calculation of your buildings’energy and carbon equivalent, the local weather correction factor is indespensible as it allows you to compare your display results from one year to the next i.e. results from warm winters can be compared with those from cold winters.

Despite the importance of the local weather correction factor, we have observed that only a very small percentage of the Display users enter figures for this option. This unfortunately brings our data into dispute as often when we present figures from different years the criticism is that these improvements could just be based on a warmer winter. As a result the Display team has decided to integrate a local weather correction factor using data with a common source and methodology.

In a months time, this free data sourced from the European Institute of Statistics will become the default value and replace your existing data. We will then recalculate all teh data so as to have a database that we can use for sound statistical analysis. As the new factors are calculated at a regional scale (picture) we are aware that some cities may have entered data that is more precise. We will therefore always allow the option to enter this data but for this first change we are required to overwrite your existing figures.

We will save a copy of all participants data for two years and if you require that this data is re-entered we will eb able to do this for you.

Another important difference linked to the use of a standard local weather correction factor is that you will be required annual data that corresponds with a calendar year. To create your poster for 2010 you will be required to wait until January 2011.

We hope that this explanation is clear and if you have any further questions we are as always hear to listen to you the user.

Some other materials will be provided on the website help soon about our new method.
